Precinct Staffing and Sign Up

Greetings from Kids Voting! Kids Voting reaches out to more than 155,000 students in Wake County, and we need your help to ensure a positive experience for each student. We hope you will agree to staff a precinct! To sign up, you can print the form below or download the form here (no password needed).

If you agree to staff a precinct, responsibilities will be as follows:

  1. Commit to staffing a precinct and select a precinct captain (unless you plan to be the captain).
  2. Secure 6-10 volunteers to work alone or in pairs in 2-4 hour shifts during the hours Kids Voting polls will be open.
  3. Attend (precinct captain or designee) 1 orientation session (offered mornings, afternoons and evenings to obtain instructions for volunteers and pick up t-shirts/supplies.
  4. Send confirmation letters and instructions to volunteers (we will provide a form letter).
  5. Contact the Board of Elections Chief Judge to find out where and when to set up your site.
  6. Ensure that you have tables and chairs for your precinct (many sites have these available; in a few, it may be necessary to bring your own).
  7. "Open" your precinct by 6:20 a.m. so it will be ready to operate starting at 6:30 a.m. This includes setting up the voting booths, ballot boxes, ballots and other supplies.
  8. Make sure the booth is staffed at all times during the hours the Kids Voting polls are open. Kids Voting polls will be open from 6:30am-9:30am and 2:30pm until 7:30pm in 2005. Volunteers may want to take a book or a project to keep them occupied in case their precinct has periods of light traffic.
  9. Close your precinct at 7:30 p.m. (break down the voting booth and transport ballots and leftover supplies to Election Headquarters.
  10. Provide a list of names and addresses of volunteers to Kids Voting for thank you cards.

Look for confirmation information from Kids Voting for assigned precincts and precinct captain training.  If you have any questions, please contact the Kids Voting office at 341-2398 or email at info@kidsvotingwake.org .
