Volunteer Opportunities

Each year hundreds of volunteers help Kids Voting create better voters, one student at a time. The efforts of volunteers like you are essential to Kids Voting's ability to reach students throughout Wake County. You can give your time through any of the opportunities listed below. Administrative Volunteer Opportunities

Administrative volunteers help keep Kids Voting costs to $1.00 per student in Wake County. Administrative projects are generally completed during office hours, but many take-home projects are available.

Election Volunteer Opportunities

Precinct Captains recruit and train volunteers who staff a precinct on Election Day, Headquarters Volunteers help with event logistics and the delivery of materials on Election Day. Other volunteers help inventory, assemble, and deliver materials.

Committee and Subcommittee Opportunities

Kids Voting committees are ideal for interested and talented individuals to be involved in the agency on an ongoing basis. Committees generally meet 4-8 times a year. Committee members perform a variety of functions and tasks. Committee and subcommittee opportunities include the following:

Communications Committee:

Develops and implements a communications/public relations/media plan to create awareness and understanding of Kids Voting. Produces promotional and collateral materials. Creates and produces ongoing communications vehicles such as newsletters for distribution to teachers, students, parents, and sponsors. Oversees media relations. Ensures that information about Kids Voting reaches all segments of the community. Develops and oversees election night media reporting plan.

Education Committee:

Directs distribution of curriculum and supplementary materials to teachers throughout Wake County. Arranges training for teachers. Develops program evaluation tools and oversees annual evaluation process. Builds relationships with teachers and schools in Wake County.

Election Day Logistics and Volunteer Recruitment Committee:

Develops and implements the election day plan. This includes designing Kids Voting ballot(s), coordinating with the Board of Elections regarding polling place logistics, establishing election headquarters, distributing and collecting ballots on Election Day and collaborating with Wake County Public School System to tabulate ballots. Develops and implements the volunteer organization and recruitment plan to ensure that Kids Voting is available in polling sites on Election Day. Recruits and trains precinct captains and volunteers. Designs volunteer training materials and materials for Election Day as well as oversees training of captains. Sends thank you letters or postcards to all Election Day volunteers. Conducts post election precinct captain evaluation. Holds post-election celebration at election headquarters. Develops and implements plan to recruit and retain agency volunteers throughout the year.

Finance and Administration Committee:

Reviews and presents monthly financial statements to the Board of Directors and maintains financial records that accurately record and track contributions, assets, and expenditures. Develops the annual budget and monitors expenditures to ensure compliance with the budget. Oversees annual audit. Develops personnel policies and addresses other personnel related issues. Researches and makes recommendations regarding insurance and other administrative issues.

Fund Development Committee:

Prepares and implements and financial development plan to secure in-kind and cash contributions sufficient to ensure implementation of and grow the Kids Voting program. Develops and monitors a long range plan to ensure fiscal stability of organization to include a variety of fundraising methods, including corporate donations, major and annual gifts from individuals, special events, public grants, corporate contributions, sponsorships, the precinct campaign, and foundation grants.

Golf Tournament Subcommittee:

Plans and hosts annual golf tournament. Secures sponsors, player registrations, and donations of goods and services in support of the event. Implement the event logistics plan.
